Sound and Video Help

Overview of viewing videos on Mortgage-Education.com:

  • In order to view the video portion of the Mortgage-Education.com course, you must have Microsoft Windows Media Player version 7 to version 9 installed on your Windows or Macintosh computer. They are currently the only versions supported.

  • If you do not have Windows Media Player installed or you have the wrong version, click here to download it (it's a free download): Download Windows Media Player . If you have Windows Media Player version 10 or 11, they must be uninstalled first. If needed, here are the uninstall instructions for Windows Media Player.

  • If you do have Windows Media Player installed, try closing and re-opening your web browser. If the problem persists, check out these troubleshooting tips at the Microsoft website.

  • Normally a video will start to play automatically after the page loads into your browser. If you have a high-speed internet connection, the video should begin playing momentarily. If you are using a dial-up connection to access the internet it might take considerably longer for the video to load.
Using Windows Media Player :

Mortgage-Education.com uses an embedded media player to display videos. The image above illustrates the location of the controls on our player.

Troubleshooting Windows Media Player:

A number of things can go wrong with sound and video on the internet. We can only address the recurring problems of our students here.

Common problems include:

  • Your internet connection may be intermittently disconnecting. This will interrupt the video file download and is a common problem with wireless connections to the internet.

  • If you are employing a firewall, it may be blocking access to the media player. This can be remedied by opening port 1755 on your firewall. If you are accessing Mortgage-Education.com from work, you will need to check with your network administrator to see if opening port 1755 is permissible.

Sound Problems:

  • If you have a speaker icon on your task bar (see the image on the lower right), your computer should be enabled for sound. Click on the speaker icon to bring up the volume control. Use the slider to adjust the volume.

  • If you are still having sound problems you should:
    • Check your speaker connections.
    • Download the latest drivers for your sound card.

To set Media Player as the default player for our video files:

  • If you have installed additional music and video software on your computer, Windows Media Player may no longer be the default player for our video files (.asx).

  • On the Media Player menu bar, click on Tools then click Options.
  • In the resulting dialog box, click on the File Types tab at the top.

  • Make sure that Windows Media File (asf) is checked.

  • Click OK.
Ensure that your browser allows the playing of media files: :
On the Internet Explorer menu bar, click Tools and then click Internet Options.
  • Click the Advanced tab at the top of the Internet Options dialog box.

  • Scroll down to the multimedia section and make sure that your computer matches the image on the right.

If you are still having problems using the Windows Media Player, you may want to uninstall your current version. Download the supported version (it's free). Available here: Download Windows Media Player
