Maryland's State Licensing Information

License Renewal Date:
December 31 of each year (can be one or two years by choice)

Covered Licensees:
A. Mortgage Lenders
B. Mortgage Brokers
C. Loan Officers

Domicile Requirements:
Licensees are not required to maintain an office in the State of Maryland.

Financial Regulations:
Licensed Mortgage Lenders must provide a surety bond ranging from $15,000.00 to $75,000.00.

Licensing Requirements:
A. Mortgage Lenders must demonstrate at least three years experience in the mortgage lending industry.
B. Licensees, including Loan Officers, must complete one of the following:
1. If experienced for less than 10 years:
A 20 hour approved course including 2 hours each in Ethics, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Truth In Lending, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Maryland Law and Federal Law, plus 8 hours of electives. This is for a two year period.
2. If experienced for more than 10 years:
A 6 hour approved course including 2 hours each of Ethics, Maryland Law and Federal Law.
(Note: Can be 12 hours every 2 years by choice)
