Supplemental Documents Help

Downloading and Printing Supplemental Documents on Mortgage-Education.com:

Many of the Supplemental Documents on Mortgage-Education.com are in Adobe .pdf format. You will have to have the latest version of Adobe's Acrobat Reader installed on your computer in order to access and print these files. Here is the link to download the Adobe Acrobat Reader . It is a free download.

After installing Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0, open it and click "help" and then click "check for updates" to download the latest updates.

Common problems include:

Some documents are very detailed and may require a longer download time than you are expecting.

If you are experiencing difficulties with your computer "locking up", you may want to save the documents to your hard drive and print them when no other programs are running. There is a more detailed walk-through of this process below.

The Adobe Acrobat Reader seems to have fewer problems loading when it is the only program running. Once the reader is loaded into your computer's memory, the loading process is no longer necessary and you will be able to access PDF files without waiting for the reader to load each time.

To Save a Document to your Hard Drive for Printing Later:

Right click on the link to the supplemental document that you want to access. Then click on "Save Target As"

In the Save As dialog box, choose a place to save the file that you can easily locate later (in this example, I created a new folder on my Desktop and named it PDF_files).

Remember the name of the file (in this case it is aoi.pdf).

When you are ready to print the file, browse to the folder that you saved the file in and open it.

Double click on the file. This will automatically load the file into Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Click the printer icon. Your printer's dialog box should appear.

The Printer Dialog Box:
Your printer's dialog boxes will probably not look exactly like these images. Consult your printer's manual for more specific information on how to make changes for your printer.

Normally, you can accept the default set-up and simply click OK to print the document.

Most printers will allow you to make changes, such as the number of copies to print, or you may choose to print only selected pages from a large document.

Click on Properties in order to access even more changes, or click OK to print the document.

The Properties Dialog Box:

In the properties dialog box, you can make a number of changes including paper size.

To change the size of the paper that the document will be printed on, click on the Paper tab at the top of the properties dialog box and use the drop down list to choose a different paper size.

You must have the selected paper size loaded in your printer.

When you are through making changes, click OK to return to the printer dialog box. Click OK again to print the document.

If your Printer isn't Printing:

Try printing a text file (create a small file in Notepad or Word and print it). If the text file fails to print, the problem is probably with your printer or the connection to your printer. If the text file prints correctly, then the problem is most likely specific to the PDF file. Visit the Adobe Acrobat Reader Support page for additional help.

If the Problem is with your Printer:

Here are just a few suggestions for troubleshooting printer problems.

  • Locate the manual for the printer and read the troubleshooting section.

  • Visit the manufacturer's web site.

  • Check all connections to the printer, including the power cord. If it is plugged into a power strip, make sure the power strip is on.

  • Check that the printer is turned on and that none of the warning lights are lit.

  • Make sure that there is paper in the printer.

  • Check that the ink cartridges are installed correctly and that they are not empty .
